My photos of Cappadocia, Turkiye showcase the diversity and beauty of this famous destination, from otherworldly landscapes to inspiring culture.
In the summer of 2023, my family spent four weeks traveling through the country of Turkiye from Istanbul down through Ephesus and along Pamukkale and the Turquoise Coast in the east to the remote and historic lands near Sanliurfa in the west.
In the middle of those incredible travels was a visit to the famous landscapes of Cappadocia.
Cappadocia is famous for its imagery of colorful hot air balloons filling the glowing morning skies. But there is far more to Cappadocia than just hot air balloons. This incredible region of central Turkiye is packed with otherworldly landscapes permeated by towering fairy chimneys and dramatic and colorful valleys.
During our visit to Cappadocia, we hiked through the lush green Ihlara Valley, wandered through majestic cave churches, went on sunset ATV rides, and, of course, took part in a sunrise hot air balloon tour.
But as a photographer, it was the photos of Cappadocia that truly captured the magic of why this is one of the most popular places to visit in the country. Every angle and time of day seemed to offer a unique and dramatic scene.
