Photography
Long before I ever entered the field of writing, I was discovering my passion for photography. It was a lifestyle that began in college when photography was included in my new media and digital arts course. Although it was just a taster, the joy of framing, depth of field, and shutter speeds had me hooked.
It was photography that led me to start my first website, Wandering Wagars – Adventure Family Travel. I was inundated with requests from family and friends to share photos of our family travel adventures to far-off destinations such as Jordan, Peru, and the Philippines. A website seemed like a great way to share those memories without rehashing the same story at each get-together. I could point them towards a link and then answer the more exciting questions after people had read the story.
I made a living as a professional photographer long before I began a career as a blogger and freelance writer. My work was primarily in product photography and corporate photoshoots, which hardly gave the same thrill as travel photography.
In 2021 my photography was nominated for an award by the Travel Media Association (the same year that my blog, Wandering Wagars, was nominated as the best digital publication or blog). And photography is now a large portion of my career, with photos being purchased by major outlets, including hotel chains and tourism boards.
