Welcome to the glimpse into the rabbit hole that is my life! I want to say that this photo at the top of the page is a pretty solid representation of what it is like to spend time with me.
My name is Kevin Wagar, I’m a travel blogger, editor, photographer, and content creator who wears so many hats that sometimes I get confused as to which one I’m wearing at any given moment.
I’m also someone who has a hard time finding great photos of themselves. You see, I’m usually the one behind the camera, setting up shots, taking photos of incredible landscapes, inspiring experiences, mouthwatering food, and, in general, making destinations look awesome. Get me in front of the camera, and I have a hard time keeping a straight face, and I’ll usually end up letting my less mature side make an appearance.
Those who know me, see a bit of a joker. But the fun-loving side doesn’t get int the way of hard work. One that has led me to grow four websites accounting for more than 300,000 pageviews per month and writing and photography that has earned me six Travel Media Association of Canada awards in both travel writing and travel photography over the past three years.
My life in travel media began in 2015 when I launched a blog, Wandering Wagars – Adventure Family Travel, detailing my family’s travels around the world. At the time, my two boys were two and five-years-old. In the years that followed, the website exploded in size and now reaches over 150,000 visitors in a month.
The brand grew to include newsletters with over 2,000 subscribers, social media pages, a YouTube channel, and even a Family Travel Support Group where over 3,000 adventurous parents have a safe space to talk about destinations, dreams, and their concerns about traveling with children.
In 2019, I co-founded the website Ultimate Ontario, a digital publication focused on showcasing local travel in my home province. The website exploded in popularity and shortly thereafter, my business partner and I decided to launch We Explore Canada, a digital publication with a similar focus, but showcasing experiences across all ten provinces and three territories.
And my work has expanded far beyond just my own publications. I began freelance writing and photography in 2017 and have since seen my work published by Lonely Planet, Intrepid Travel, Explore Magazine, Canadian Traveller, Frontiers North, Verge Magazine, and more.
I partnered with three other professional content creators to form The Blogger Collective, a network of content creators, freelancers, and creatives based in central Ontario focused on raising the quality and capabilities of content creators. The organization now boasts over 750 content creators, includes e-learning and professional development, and partners with brands, destinations, and businesses on press trips, promotional coverage, and more.
I’ve given webinars, panel discussions, and presentations to prestigious groups such as the Society of American Travel Writers, the Adventure Travel and Trade Association, and the Travel Media Association of Canada on topics such as editing, SEO, content strategy, and growing your brand.
Now that you know a little about me, it’s time for me to connect with you. Whether on social media, or via e-mail. You can check out my Work With Me page to see some of my professional offerings, or just reach out via my social channels below to say hello.
